  • How To Keep Your Jewelry Safe When Traveling

Hey there, jewelry lovers! Summer is just around the corner, and that means it’s time for vacations, adventures, and making unforgettable memories. As custom jewelry designers, we know how much your pieces mean to you. Whether it's your engagement ring, a diamond necklace, or a custom bracelet, each item holds a special place in your heart. But what happens when life’s unpredictable moments put your treasured pieces at risk? That’s where jewelry insurance comes in! Why Is Jewelry Insurance Important? Protection Against Loss or Theft 1. Let’s face it, custom pieces can be a target for theft. Insurance ensures that if your jewelry is lost or stolen, you’re not left bearing it all alone. It’s like having a safety net for your sparkle! Coverage for Damage 2. Accidents happen. Maybe you drop your ring in the ocean or a gemstone gets loose while golfing? The right insurance can cover the cost of repairs or even a replacement! Peace of Mind 3. Knowing your valuable pieces are protected lets you wear and enjoy them without constant worry - you’re on vacation after all! How to Insure Your Jewelry! Choose the Right Insurance Not all insurance policies are created equal. Look for one specifically designed for jewelry, as it will offer coverage tailored to valuable pieces. Some homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policies might cover jewelry, but often the coverage limits are too low unless each item is specified. Also, investigate the details of what is or is not covered as most insurance will only cover loss or theft. We, at Warren Jewellers, suggest Jewelers Mutual as they will cover loss, theft, along with damage. We even use them for our personal jewelry! Keep Documentation Handy Keep detailed records of your jewelry, including photographs and receipts. This documentation will be invaluable if you ever need to file a claim. Travel Tips! With summer vacations on the horizon, the risk of loss, theft, or damage to your jewelry can increase. Here are a few tips to keep your pieces safe while traveling: ● Always keep your jewelry in your carry-on bag when flying. Checked luggage can be lost, delayed, or handled roughly, increasing the risk of damage or loss! ● Invest in a good travel jewelry case with compartments and padding to keep your items organized and protected. Separate your diamond and gemstone jewelry as damage can occur if they rub or hit up against each other. ● Take off your jewelry when you go into the ocean, a lake, pool, and even a hot tub. Your rings might be more likely to fall off in water, especially if it’s cooler water. Not to mention some chemicals in pools and hot tubs can damage jewelry over time. ● Only bring the pieces you plan to wear and leave the rest in a secure place at home. This minimizes the risk and makes it easier to keep track of your items. ● Before you travel, verify that your insurance policy covers your jewelry while you’re away from home. Some policies may have restrictions or require additional coverage for international travel. ● If you’re still worried about bringing your wedding rings, opt for wearing one of our Recon silicone rings instead. Stop By The Store! Before you travel: Do you have any concerns about your jewelry catching on clothing or the metal looking worn? Let us check your jewelry to make sure your stones are tight and secure - it only takes a few minutes! After you come back: Enjoy a complimentary cleaning to remove any sunscreen or sand from your jewelry!

Here’s where we come in: Rediscover and Redesign: Bring in those jewels or heirloom pieces you rarely wear, and let’s discover together all the wonderful things they could become! An old ring might find new life as an elegant pendant, or perhaps those out-of-style earrings could become a modern, statement necklace. Our skilled designers excel in repurposing existing stones into new pieces that better suit your current tastes while preserving the memories they hold. Custom Creations: With the help of both cutting-edge technology and traditional craftsmanship, we can provide sketches and 3D models to help visualize your redesigned jewelry. This collaborative process ensures that your revamped piece is precisely what you envisioned, seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary design. You get to retain the sentimental importance of your original piece while creating something new and exciting that fits your budget. 2. • How soon should you get your wedding bands before your big day?

Let’s set the scene: You recently got proposed to by the love of your life and you both just picked the perfect date for your wedding. You have almost everything planned out; the cake, the venue, the flowers, a DJ, etc. But wait! What about your wedding bands? Since you will be wearing these every day for forever, they're a pretty important part of your wedding and marriage, so you may want to plan accordingly and fit them in your wedding budget early. Some wedding planning sites say to start your wedding bands a month before the wedding; however, we (at Warren Jewellers) suggest starting them at least 8 weeks before – if not more! The reason behind this is, depending on you and your fiance, you may need a completely custom-made band. Custom creations typically take 4-6 weeks to cast and set, so you should always add a little bit of wiggle room just in case we need to make adjustments! Regardless of when you decide to get your wedding bands, Warren Jewellers is proud to help you check one more thing off your wedding to-do-list! #weddingband #weddingplanning #wedding #timeframe #customdesign

  • Dive Into The Allure Of June's Most Popular Birthstone

Let’s talk pearl jewelry! But first, the basics! Pearls, the gemstones of the sea, are formed when a tiny grain of sand or a small object gets inside an oyster's shell. The oyster then covers the intruder with a shiny substance called nacre, which builds up layer by layer, creating a beautiful pearl. Pearls come in many different shapes, sizes, and types. There are the Akoya pearls, renowned for their classic natural beauty. Then, the Tahitian pearls, that come in mesmerizing shades like midnight black and peacock greens. And let’s not forget the budget-friendly and most popular freshwater cultured pearls, which come in a rainbow of colors and shapes! Throughout history, pearls have been loved and worn by famous figures like queens and empresses. Many believed that pearls had special powers and brought good luck. Pearls became a symbol of elegance and beauty. With famous historical figures such as Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I adoring and wearing them, pearls quickly became symbols of elegance and beauty. Although previously associated with grandma's jewelry box, pearls have come a long way in the fashion world. They have broken free from their traditional settings! New trends emerging are modern twists on classic designs, such as asymmetrical pearl earrings or layered pearl necklaces. There has also been a rise in minimalist pearl jewelry; with delicate pearl pendants and dainty bracelets becoming increasingly popular. Remember, whether you opt for classic pearl studs or daring pearl-accented accessories, these gems of the sea will always be a captivating choice. So, dive into the world of pearls and make your own style statement! #pearls #pearljewelry #birthstonejewelry #junebirthstone

Now you can travel with your favorite pair of earrings with ease!

  • What Are The Best Colorful Gemstones To Use In Engagement Rings?

With all the different colorful gemstone options available, it may be hard to tell what gemstones are going to hold up and last throughout the years! Because we use our hands all day every day, our rings tend to experience a lot of wear and tear. Some gemstones (ex. sapphires) are going to withstand that force much better than others (ex. opals). Here is the list of our favorite durable gemstones to use in engagement rings: Diamonds Of course, diamonds are extremely durable; they’re the hardest gemstone known to man (10 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness)! But did you know both natural and lab grown diamonds are available in a variety of colors? When it comes to their color, natural diamonds get their coloring from trace elements that interacted with the carbon atoms during the diamond's creation. Lab grown diamonds get their coloring by adding different gases during the growing process. There is no difference in a diamond’s durability, whether it is white or any other color! Moissanites Moissanite is rapidly becoming one of the most popular center stones for engagement rings and fine jewelry. They are also the second hardest gemstone and are almost all exclusively lab created (9.25 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness). Being found originally in meteorites, moissanites are extremely rare in their natural form. They not only come in a variety of different shapes/sizes, but also color. Moissanites have proven to be extremely durable and perfect for everyday wear! Sapphires Next in hardness are sapphires. Similar to the other gemstones on this list, they are available in both natural and lab grown. While there are quite a few different colors available in lab created sapphires, there are more hue and color variations available in natural (at this time). Not only are sapphires great for a center stone, but they also make a durable and colorful accent stone for any unique engagement ring! Rubies Rubies belong to the same mineral family as sapphires, meaning that they have the exact same durability and hardness. Although they have less color options/variety, rubies still make a striking center stone or accent stone. Just like sapphires, moissanites and diamonds, they also come in both natural and lab created! Try these gemstone alternatives in place of other popular, but soft, gemstones: · Instead of morganite, try a peach or light pink sapphire. · Instead of paraiba tourmaline, try a green moissanite. · Instead of pink tourmaline, try a pink sapphire. · Instead of citrine, try a yellow diamond, moissanite or sapphire. · Instead of amethyst, try a purple moissanite or sapphire. · Instead of grey spinel, try a grey moissanite or salt and pepper diamond. · Instead of garnet, try a red diamond or ruby. · Instead of tanzanite, try a light Ceylon blue sapphire. Call us at 717-299-3088 or Text us at 717-300-8125 to learn more about our available gemstones! #gemstones #mohsscaleofhardness #gemstonealternatives #sapphire #ruby #moissanite #engagementring

  • Taking Care Of Your Jewelry – Is Soap And Sanitizer Safe?

Keeping clean is a very important part of our everyday routine; as well as during these trying times. We all know to wash our hands for 20+ seconds and to use hand sanitizer when soap isn’t readily available. But is all this washing and sanitizing safe for our everyday jewelry pieces? Is it causing our rings harm? Before we can answer that question, we need to learn about the two different types of hand sanitizer: alcohol-based and non-alcohol-based. According to jewelry experts, alcohol-based hand sanitizer poses little to no risk to our beloved jewelry (except pearls- but we will get to that later). However, the non-alcohol-based sanitizer usually contain chlorine compounds. These compounds can cause tarnishing to silver and potential cracking in low karat golds. Just like chlorine, we never suggest exposing jewelry other potentially harsh chemicals, as they can be damaging (read more about our Jewelry Care in our FAQ section here). When it comes to hand soaps, it’s a little different. Some hand soaps contain abrasives to exfoliate while cleaning – these types of soaps can cause damage to the surface of your jewelry as well as cause the rhodium plating on white gold to wear away faster. Other soaps should pose no risk. As for gemstones in our jewelry, if there are no abrasives in your alcohol-based hand sanitizer, there shouldn’t be damage to your harder gemstones. They may have a residue causing them to temporarily lose their shine (nothing a clean with jewelry cleaner or gentle soap can’t fix at the end of the day!). Pearls on the other hand, should not be in contact with any chemicals, as they can lose their luster and change color. In conclusion, most jewelry will be just fine. If you’re ever worried about the potential of damage that could happen, taking your jewelry off before washing your hands with chemicals is always a safe bet! Just don’t forget to clean your jewelry as well to help stop the buildup of bacteria. Also don’t hesitate to stop by our store at Warren Jewellers for a professional cleaning at anytime. #Jewelrycare #COVID19 #Soap #Handsanitizer #Jewelry #Rings

  • Custom Creating a Ring - What's the process?

By now, you probably have an idea of what you want your dream ring to look like. Whether you just started looking, have some ideas pinned on Pinterest or want to create something completely from scratch – we’re here to help you every step of the way! (if you want to set up a consultation appointment click here) Although the designing process is different for everyone, the creation of the ring typically takes 4 - 6 weeks. 4 - 6 weeks may feel like a long time, especially in a world where we have access to next day, and even same day delivery; however there are a lot of steps in which your dream ring has to go through before it comes out all sparkly and ready for your hand! The first step your design goes through, after it is approved by you, is a validation process, where the 3-D design is looked over for anything that may not meet our production standards. After the design file is examined, we have the option to make a wax model of the ring for you to view before it gets cast in your metal of choice. Now the wax may be a dark green and not as pretty as the real deal, but it gives you a great idea of the proportions of the ring and how it will fit. If anything doesn’t meet your expectations, we are able to make minor adjustments to the design and create the wax again. Next in the process, the ring gets cast in the metal of your choice - whether it’s in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold/palladium, palladium, or platinum. After the ring is cast from the wax model, it is then polished, and the stones are set. Our jeweler, with over 40 years of experience, then looks over each piece with extreme scrutiny and makes sure that it leaves our hands in perfect condition. We also make sure your ring was created in the correct metal quality and made in your exact size. The last and final step your ring goes through after we’re done gawky over how beautiful it is, is a small photo session that we then post on our social media (when it is safe) and email to you upon request. So it may be difficult to have to wait for your custom designed creation, but it’s definitely worth it!
